Jill's Travelogue

Mexico from my view.

Almost there…..

Sharing the road can take on an entirely different meaning.

Benjamin’s final resting place before we start with our gift.

The community reservoir on top of the mountain near the cemetery.
We collected the water for the construction of the memorial

This is the top of the memorial we had carved for him.
It has a planter for flowers above the figure.
The entire structure is 18” tall, 36” wide and 9’ long
and carved from pink volcanic stone.

David and Benjamin’s family finishing the monument.

Working in Heraclios house to get workers ready.

Dinner, delicious and hot.  “Tacos” on my lap for dinner,
chicken, a radish, tortillas and chilis.

The Market in Paracho is loud, crowded and busy.

Paracho is also home to many builders of guitars.

Heading south can be a tough trip
and extra horsepower can be handy.

Finally at the beach in Playa Azul.

The Cabana is still standing.

The water in front of me is the edge of an open pit
iron ore mine that is on the property of the family (80 households)
group of these two men.  The pit is over 600’ deep in the middle
and is now filled with fresh water, farmed langostino shrimp and 12’ long
crocodiles.  The property is pocked with such holes and the
mountains of rubble generated by 30 years of open pit mining.

Dinner at Arturo’s restaurant sitting with the family.

One last sunset before we hit the road again.

Remember that these pictures were taken during 2200
miles of driving on the way south and very little resting.
These trips are very intense in time experienced, miles
covered and emotional ups and downs.
