Chattahoochee Storm Repair

Roadside Clearing

November of 2007 we started the Chattahoochee River Storm Repair Contract for the National Park Service. The contract was awarded at $736,000.00 and was bonded with the assistance of the Lane Conrad family whose son was David Ellis' highschool math teacher. As teenagers both David Ellis, founder and president of Renewable and Jill Ellis (then Jill Hall), vice-president, both visited the parks that make up this beautiful National Park. The 1st item of work was Roadside Clearing.

While the contract called for completly clearing the vegetation David and Jill Ellis did a demo showing the NPS staff that they could leave selected native vegetation.

Our crew was a mixture of Americans and Mexican Forest Conservation Workers. The Mexican workers come in on the H2B visa. A program that David Ellis was instrumental in opening in 1997.

It was not long before the NPS staff agreed to turn David and Jill loose in selecting certain natives. The pink flags represent the trees to retain.

This is a good example of the vegetation load before the chipping.

Here we see the chipping in progress.

This is a good shot showing the vegetation load.

Here we see the after. Note that this bank contained Wistereia an invasive that Renewable stump treated the cut vines with Garlon 4.

Traffic control setup before the actual work station.

More traffic control were we had to stop and release traffic due to the curves.

Nice shot showing the finished product.
